SmartThings - Samsung IoT Platform
SmartThings is Samsung's IoT platform, which supports smart devices of different technologies and brands, providing remote control, scheduled on/off, automations, and smart scenes. It is compatible with thousands of devices from hundreds of brands, and its wide compatibility makes the Aeotec Smart Home Hub and SmartThings platform so powerful. Whether it's audio systems or security systems, smart lighting or smart heating, the Aeotec Smart Home Hub helps you build a perfectly personalized smart home.
One App to Control It All: SmartThings
No matter which device you connect, no matter which routine you automate, you can control them all through the SmartThings application. With the help of the SmartThings app, which is available for both Android and Apple's iOS and iPadOS systems, you can quickly create the necessary routines and automations, connect new devices, control all connected things, and receive notifications when something happens at home.
In the SmartThings application, you can automate your own routines to make everyday life even more comfortable. This means that you can set event sequences — you don't have to get up from the couch to adjust the heating. If a sensor detects a temperature change, it notifies the center, and other devices automatically adjust the temperature. Meanwhile, the brightness of the lamps decreases, creating a pleasant atmosphere.
Device Compatibility
Z-Wave, ZigBee, Thread, and network (http) devices can be directly connected to the Aeotec Smart Home Hub. Thanks to the SmartThings software, connecting devices with SmartThings certification is very easy, whether it's a sensor, a washing machine, an air conditioner, or even a TV. The integrated Z-Wave electronics ensure that, in theory, any Z-Wave device can be used.
Local Pairing and Cloud Integrations
A wide range of devices from different brands are compatible with the Aeotec SmartThings hub, allowing local pairing. These include many Zigbee 3.0 devices compatible with platforms like eWeLink or Tuya, such as the Sonoff Zigbee sensors, the Sonoff S26 Zigbee socket, the SmartWise Zigbee smart light bulb, and some SmartWise Zigbee light switches.
Other smart devices with WiFi can be integrated into the SmartThings system via the cloud, meaning that all eWeLink devices and Shelly devices will appear in the SmartThings app — even without a hub — if we connect our eWeLink or Shelly hub to our SmartThings/Samsung account.
Integration Platform
The SmartThings hub and platform, thanks to its wide compatibility, are popular as an integration platform. For example, eWeLink or Shelly WiFi devices can be connected via the factory cloud, while Zigbee, Thread, or Z-Wave devices can be directly connected through the Aeotec SmartThings hub. Everything can be controlled locally in the app, creating scenes and automations.
Based on a quick test, the SmartThings hub can create automations between the directly connected devices that will work offline, thanks to the offline capabilities of the Aeotec hub. You can read more on the SmartThings website.
