The SmartWise DW4-ZB is a Zigbee door and window status, a tiny smart wireless sensor that connects to a Zigbee gateway to communicate with the smart home cloud or a local hub. It is compatible with both eWeLink Zigbee gateways and Tuya Zigbee gateways.
Its very small size allows for installation to doors or windows almost unnoticed.
It communicates with the eWeLink cloud via a Sonoff Zigbee Bridge Pro, but also works with the Tuya smart home system via a Tuya / SmartLife Zigbee gateway.
What is the Zigbee protocol?
Most products use Wi-Fi and RF as communication protocol, which are not specifically IoT standards.
Zigbee, on the other hand, is an ideal communication solution specifically for low-power devices where there is not a large amount of data transfer but where the lowest possible time latency is important. Zigbee is a good choice for battery-powered sensors or remote controllers, for example, where Zigbee offers multiple uptimes compared to Wi-Fi. Zigbee sensors cannot be used on their own, they need a Zigbee gateway to connect them to your home/office network.
Due to the nature of Zigbee technology, pairing with each Zigbee device is a snap, much faster than pairing with Wi-Fi.
The sensor also has a tamper detector that can send an alert (for Tuya Zigbee gateway only) if the sensor's main unit has been removed from its location.
